nvidia-tesla-GPU

It has been quite some time since we started hearing the buzz around names like NVIDIA CUDA, Fermi and Tesla, but I guess it’s not that easy to see those in practice, retailing, still with all the rumors and hype around the it seems so difficult to forget NVIDIA’s promise: a promise to reduce the cost of supercomputers with up to 10 times!! This is the very same motto and it applies to advertising of the new Tesla 20-series GPU, who should come in the form of GPU PCI-Express Gen-2 cards too. According to the company, these video cards will be able to offer ray tracing and 3D Cloud computing at much lower price. Well we have all listened to those marketing messages more than once and "cheaper" for supercomputers is a concept of it’s own (talking about prices between $ 2,499 and $ 18,995). The series will be released in the second quarter of 2010. I would love to get one of those on my home desktop :) What about you?

Today I got my 7.1-channel Razer Megalodon gaming headset, and only a few minutes after the first try, I remained very pleasantly surprised by them. Stylish appearance and very comfortable for long wear design, ease of use and truly impressive sound using the stereo source into 2.0 mode and multichannel 5.1 or 7.1 sound and 7.1 respectively on the headset. In each mode the results were more than satisfactory. Lack of need for any extra drivers and physically comfortable and functional controller are quite big plus, especially if you are like a little more serious gamer, who goes to tournaments or similar events and you are used to move with your gear.

More impressions of the Razer Megalodon are still to come as I test them in everyday situations but so far so good, as I said after my first contact with the headset I am very pleasantly surprised by their performance and the general feel…

Well it wasn’t a joke. In Taiwan Dell announced they are selling a 19” for $15.. The “promotion” was live for eight hours. But guess what..it was a typo :) The price should have been $150. After 8 hours and 140 000 orders made by 26 000 customers that joke/typo “promotion” might cost them a lot..:)

Statistics says that’s 5.3 monitors ordered per customer, on average. Well I guess one couldn’t reject such a tempting offer, I would get a dozen myself..

The thing now comes down to calculations. The Taiwan government will hold Dell responsible if they don’t ship the ordered monitors. That will be in violation of Taiwan’s fair trade laws and the government definitely will seek legal recourse. I am sure accountants at Dell are now pretty busy calculating which option will cost them less.. shipping 140 000 at $15 or having to deal with the Taiwan authorities and a possible lawsuit.. That’s a BAD typo!

A remote control car going 200 mph?? Well not really, but very close to that. Nic Case’s The Red Schumacher Mi3 Remote Control Pocket Rocket is going with the amazing 161 mph!! That’s an amazing result for a RC but the 46 year-old designer Nic Case thinks “This car has more..” He is aiming and the stunning 200 mph.

The creation process took 6 months and about $4000 for all the parts. (more…)

We all own a mobile device of some sort, or at least I assume so by the fact that you are reading this post, and most probably all of you have experienced some problems with the battery of your iPod, or your phone going flat in the middle of an important call while you are on your way to somewhere…

Charging you handheld devices, your cellular or mp3 player is becoming a hot topic for a lot of businesses and the hype around it is becoming outrageous. There are numerous green technologies that allow for mobile renewable energy to be used in our everyday lives – solar chargers, kinetic energy chargers.. even mini portable wind turbines.

If this is a matter of interest for you than you will want to see this video…

Katie Fehrenbacher (Earth2Tech editor) hosting a panel discussion about the potential of renewable energy technology. Featuring green-tech entrepreneurs from M2E (kinetic energy), HyMini (mini wind chargers), Solio (portable solar chargers), Boston Power (long-life batteries), and MTI (fuel cells), it’s a great discussion about how to power mobility, and how to make gadgets more portable and eco-friendly.

The name is still to be clarified as, so far what is know is that it is a part of a project called “PUMA” – Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility.

puma-segway-gm-vehicle1

GM and Segway are working together to create this marvelous little vehicle. It uses the balancing technology of the Segway - the famous two-wheeled recreational vehicle, and is planned to incorporate networking abilities between the vehicles taking traveling to a whole new level. It has a communication system that  includes a built in GPS system, so this new vehicle would actually be able to navigate itself and spot obstacles in the road. This allows for a reduced rate of accidents, which is a healthy addition for any driver and it will sort out a lot of the “road rage” incidents. Because you can have the option for the vehicle to take you to your designated destination without you having to drive you will have more time for your morning newspaper, or a book on your Kindle. It can easily be turned into an entertainment box – couple of touch screens, broadband internet, sounds like a plan…

First time I saw the description of the device I though “hah, they misspelled the company”. But this is not Logitech, it is actually another company called Logitec from Japan. Pretty tricky if you ask me. So Logitec announced production of this micro router.

The dimensions of this pocket size router LAN-WG/RA are 6.2×8.2×1.9 cm and weight of 55 g. Really tiny device that can be converted and used as access point. It supports the following encryption standards: WPA2(AES), WPA(TKIP) and WEP128/64 bit.
