The eMachines company presented their new EZ1601-01 nettop with some very original design solutions. First impression is that this is actually a desktop PC with monitor, keyboard, mouse. But than you realize that there is no desktop itself and it is the design of the nettop that makes it as comfortable to work on as on a desktop.
Well it wasn’t a joke. In Taiwan Dell announced they are selling a 19” for $15.. The “promotion” was live for eight hours. But guess what..it was a typo
The price should have been $150. After 8 hours and 140 000 orders made by 26 000 customers that joke/typo “promotion” might cost them a lot..:)
Statistics says that’s 5.3 monitors ordered per customer, on average. Well I guess one couldn’t reject such a tempting offer, I would get a dozen myself..
The thing now comes down to calculations. The Taiwan government will hold Dell responsible if they don’t ship the ordered monitors. That will be in violation of Taiwan’s fair trade laws and the government definitely will seek legal recourse. I am sure accountants at Dell are now pretty busy calculating which option will cost them less.. shipping 140 000 at $15 or having to deal with the Taiwan authorities and a possible lawsuit.. That’s a BAD typo!
